Let’s Talk about - Blue Spirulina

Hello My Lovers,

Today, I wanted to talk about Blue Spirulina. As seen on my reels in IG, I love taking my smoothies with spirulina. But I remember that I have never informed you guys more deeply what it is and where does it comes from.

Let’s start from the basics, spirulina is a type of algae that grows in fresh or saltwater that is derived from cyanobacteria.

BLUE SPIRULINa

It can primarily be found in lakes and rivers and has a bitter, fishy flavor to it. It's a superfood and it comes as a supplement, in tablet or powder form

For many years, people wouldn't believe the health benefits from it, but recent scientific studies proved that spirulina is loaded with multiple healthy nutrients, and these nutrients help improving overall health.

A study in 2017, showed that spirulina is very effective for gut health. It preserves healthy gut bacteria, which helps with digestion.

It contains nutrients like iron, protein, calcium and magnesium. Additionally, spirulina provides vitamins B1, B2, and B3, as well as amino acids and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

I mean, no wonder it is called a superfood. I also read on another blog while I was trying to find more information about blue spirulina that it contains an antioxidant called phycocyanin. Which is a plant based protein that gives spirulina it’s blue-green color, it blocks inflammation and fights free radicals, a type of molecule in the body that causes damage through oxidation.

Not sure if you guys know, but heart diseases are directly related to our blood pressure and in our cholesterol levels, spirulina reduces both and it helps prevent heart disease. A Research in 2013, suggests that these blue-green algae have a role in preventing heart diseases.

Spirulina is considered beneficial for oral cancer. I read on a study that 87 people from India who were having precancerous lesions known as oral submucous fibrosis. Among those who took 1 gram spirulin per day for almost one year, about 45% of these people showed the disappearance of their lesions. While on the other hand, among those who didn’t take spirulina, only 7% percent had their lesion disappeared. After they stopped using spirulin, they developed these lesions again.

Please I suggest you read all of the studies I found on spirulina. It’s really interesting knowing all the benefits you can get from including spirulina in your diet.

Lastly, of course I'm not leaving this blog without giving you a recipe with blue spirulina.
